Short&Sweet

My friend Maggie took me to a film festival event called Short&Sweet last week and literally every film that was shown was fantastic. All in very different ways. But good film making/story-telling/animation and even acting all-round.

Here are three completely different films from the festival:

Albany, New York (CNN) -- New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the state's marriage equality bill hours after it passed the Republican-controlled Senate on Friday night, making it the sixth state in the nation to legalize same-sex marriage.

Cuomo signed the bill into law after the legislature cleared the way to legalize same-sex marriage with a 33-to-29 vote, the first time a state Senate with a Republican majority has approved such a bill.

The new law, which will allow same-sex couples in New York to marry within 30 days, drew a sharp rebuke from opponents, who spent millions to try to defeat the measure.

Good job, NYC. I love that LadyGaga has been backing this campaign to legalize gay marriage all along. Legend.

Stop motion devotion.

I was looking for something special for someone special (the kind of special thing you have to find online because it's the only way to send someone something special when that someone is 5979miles away). This is what I found and I liked it so much that not only do I wish to inspire my someone but I wish to do that for you, too.

Robin Rhode. Thanks to Kat ten Velthuis for introducing me to this artist. Jack of all arts. The creation of his pieces is a performance that people can come and watch (call it 'performance art' if you will). The piece is then photographed and video'd and sold as artworks in a gallery at another point in time. I think that's pretty dope.

Google Vocal Graphics.

In 3rd Year at UCT studying Theatre & Performance we each had to do a task called "Vocal Graphics" - a task that required us to create a clip from an action serial including an ad break and some form of music using only our voices. This was mine. Thought I'd have some fun with it and put it to some google images.

Some friends and I have come together to form a little group called the yellowapron and this is our first video. We're basically trying to just kickstart forward while we're still studying, working with fusing all the arts (drama, dance, music, multi-media and art) and making non-arts people watch and enjoy what we're doing. Piece of cake.

A year-or-so ago, I created a wild and wonderful world-wide-web woman... Suzanne Riche. I did it to start having some fun with creating a character on screen, but also to start generating conversation with others online about things I could make Suzanne have strong opinions about that didn't necessarily have to reflect my own.

I miss spending every single fucking night of my life backstage of the Little Theatre with the most aesthetically pleasing cast Hiddingh has ever seen. Where is my mind?

I was playing with the chords from the Pixies' "Where is my mind" this afternoon and thought I'd make a little music video playing with the irony of the lyrics. Except I couldn't play the piano swimming.

It's a very elementary cover of a great song that I'm not in any way trying to do justice.

Facebook Post of the day today is by Jesse Wentzel... I love the music, and the video is really fun and pacey and the conviction that both of the cellists express is hilarious. Proves my theory that muso's often make for good actors - or, at least, good muso's often make for better actors than non-muso's could. Make sense?
